Oakdale, NY-
The Women’s Lacrosse team put together their third straight winning season in 2010, finishing with a record of 11-6 while finishing third in the East Coast Conference with a record of 5-2.
After jumping out to a 4-1 start to the season that included a win over nationally ranked New Haven, the Golden Lions hit a mid-season lull, losing three out of their next four games including two close defeats to nationally ranked opponents Limestone and West Chester. Dowling rebounded by winning six of their final eight matches to keep their streak of winning seasons intact.
Numerous team members were honored for outstanding individual seasons with Cassandra Cronin (Islip Terrace, NY) leading the way. Cronin became the first All-American in program history as she was named to both the womenslacrosse.com and IWLCA All-America Second Team. Cronin, who set the program’s single season record with 67 goals, also was named to the IWLCA All-North Region First Team, the ECAC All-Star team, and to the ECC All-Conference First Team.
Joining Cronin on the IWLCA All-Region squad was defender Samantha Titus (Bay Shore, NY). Titus was also named to the ECAC All-Star Team and ECC All-Conference First Team as well. Five other Golden Lions were honored with All-Conference honors. Stephanie Cotter (Ridge, NY), Brianna Falese (Centereach, NY), and Brooke Witkowski (Lindenhurst, NY) were named to the First Team, while Rachael Goldstein (Ridge, NY) and Alana Gund (Lindenhurst, NY) were named to the Second Team.
